Racine_high-speed_steam_engine_(New_Catechism_of_the_Steam_Engine,_1904)

Blackberry isn’t dead quiet yet, but they’re definitely on life support. That means it’s time to turn our attention on the next space to be disrupted: your living room, compliments of Valve’s Steam Machine.

Yep, Blackberry might go private with the help of FairFax Financial, Valve makes its own OS and hardware, China Mobile is probably getting the iPhone, Microsoft’s Surface 2 doesn’t exactly wow people, Nokia thinks Elop did his job too well, Samsung obviously announces a gold Galaxy S4, Nest might be making a smoke Detector, Boeing is making drones that fly better than humans, Mint shares modern tech we can’t live without, and Google Glass actually has competition.

104: The Award Winning, Life Saving, Automated Episode

 Technology Health

This week contained highs and lows. Life is good if you’re Apple, Google, Rockstar and HP. Life isn’t so good if you’re Nintendo, Blackberry or Microsoft. We dissect each reason why.

We talk about the new Scout alarm system, Hiroshi Yamauchi of Nintendo passing away, Apple’s 64-bit processor, Blackberry’s death, Google’s new health company called Calico, robots building cars next to humans at BMW, HP’s new Android/Windows tablets and their new laptop with Leap Motion control, Grand Theft Auto 5’s record sales, and Matthew’s unfortunate experience with multi-path TCP.

Unapologetically Apple. Like any good Furlo Bros episode after an Apple event, we go to great lengths to cover everything and anything related to Apple. We dissect each phone and gush over how great Apple is.

We do also manage to mention Sony’s PS Vita TV, Dell billion dollar buyout, Twitter’s IPO announcement, McDonald’s mobile app, TechCrunch Disrupt winners Layer and Dryft, and Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 woes.

101: Thinking Outside the Incipient Chip

Chocolate Chips

In order to keep pace with innovation, you sometimes need to get creative: when everyone else is looking left and right, you look up. We’re on the precipice of something big.

To that end, we learn about dirty little secrets thanks to a Reddit thread, we celebrate Pandora’s limitless music, we make fun of Champagne, we marvel at the possibilities of graphene, we question Nintendo’s 2DS strategy, we marvel more at Samsung’s multi-layered NAND, we predict the merge of Twitter and Facebook, we mention Betaworks & Instapaper’s new look, we watch Keven Spacey talk about the future of TV and movies, and we finish with Hugo Barra leaving Google’s Android team.

Incremental Improvement

Incremental (adjective): of, relating to, being, or occurring in especially small improvements.

That’s what we featured this week. Incremental improvements in earnings calls, Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, Google products (Nexus 7, 4.3 Jelly Bean, Play Games App and even their Chromecast). We also talk about the potentially new Ubuntu Edge, and manufacturing in America.
