87: Episode One

xbox720

The new Xbox will be called the Xbox One despite being the 3rd iteration. So today’s show is called Episode One despite being the 87th.

We also talk about the death of Google Buzz, Yahoo buying Tumblr while fixing Flickr, an amazing gun scope, Amazon’s new bio-dome, Samsung’s crazy bid to take over Android from Google, and Microsoft’s commercials vs Apple’s.

74: The Future of Cyborgs and Supercapacitors

LukeHand

In classic Furlo Bros fashion, we wax philosophically about just how awesome the future is going to be. Here’s what we talked about in episode 74:

The first artificial hand with feeling is to be installed, Sunrise redefines the iOS calendar app, Supercapacitors come closer to reality with a way to cheaply print Graphene, Sony fails to show the PlayStation 4 console at their PlayStation 4 event, Google announces the Chromebook Pixel and Google also shows off more of Glass.

73: Avenging the Death of xBox

elon-musk-tony-stark

When a meteor strikes earth, the only thought in your mind should be one question: When will the Avengers assemble? That’s what we asked ourselves while talking about tech this week. Perhaps the other 2 questions you’re asking are 1) When is Elon Musk going to reveal his personal arc reactor? and 2) Will Microsoft ever figure out how to innovate again with their xBox?

Then there might be other news: Sony might stream games to their next gen PlayStation, HP might make an Android tablet, Google might open retail stores, Samsung might start selling Tizen smartphones soon, and Nest might make another smart home-based product.

71: You Can’t Win ’em All, Though I Don’t See Why Not

Super Bowl Blackout

Episode 71 comes after a rough loss for the 49ers. Of all the horrible things to happen in the week, this was the worst. But we pull ourselves together to talk about technology. Here’s what happened.

Elon Musk offers to help Boeing with their battery problem, Microsoft reveals that you’ll only get to use 23gb of the 64gb Surface Pro, Apple introduces a 128gb iPad, RIM changes to Blackberry along with a new mobile OS, researchers figure out how to print 3D moon bases, Newegg defeats Soverain to saves the Internet, driverless cars are closer than you think, and Nintendo announces they’re going to lose money this year.

This year… Sigh… We’ll get them next year… Go 49ers!

Buy Whichever Phone Makes You Happy

Episode 52! Apple releases iOS 6 and the world explodes off the maps! We talk about why it’ll be OK for Apple, and why Google will still be OK too. The only real loser is RIM, who suffered another outage while losing the lead in security. Facebook continues to be creepy by asking friends to snitch, AT&T continues to be a jerk.

We also talk about the possibility of a Star Trek like Warp Drive, Verizon CFO’s comments about Unlimited Data, Phil Schiller’s comments about wireless charging, and Sony’s redesign of the PS3. Finally, Matthew shares his experience completing the Tough Mudder.

An Exercise In Freedom

For this July 4th weekend we opened up the 41st podcast to let anyone join who wanted to, and then proceeded to experience massive technical difficulties. We had Yancy Eaton (@yancyeaton) join, and David Villani attempt multiple times.

It was a fun discussion which hit on the Nexus 7 killing all other Androids, the Weather Channel consuming Weather Underground, 7″ iPad rumors, the Higgs Boson “God Particle” discovery, Bizodo’s stupid/brilliant business, the size of Reddit, and finally a rousing discussion about Sony and their purchase of Gaikai.

There Is No Time For E3

It’s E3! In honor of E3 we have a very special episode for you. We invited two industry experts to give us their thoughts and opinions on the five presentations. We covered Microsoft and Halo 4, EA being better with connect, Nike+, Univision, SmartGlass, Internet Explorer, and Black Ops 2. We talk about EA, the UFC, and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. We briefly touch on Ubisoft. A gush about Sony and Beyond, AllStars, Assassin’s Creed, their new Wonderbook: Book of Spells, and The Last of Us. We finish up with Nintendo, who didn’t have enough time to tell us about the new Wii U, or Mario, or Pikmin, or the 3DS, or Lego City.

Thanks to Rog and Dave for joining our show. You can find them online at:
