74: The Future of Cyborgs and Supercapacitors

LukeHand

In classic Furlo Bros fashion, we wax philosophically about just how awesome the future is going to be. Here’s what we talked about in episode 74:

The first artificial hand with feeling is to be installed, Sunrise redefines the iOS calendar app, Supercapacitors come closer to reality with a way to cheaply print Graphene, Sony fails to show the PlayStation 4 console at their PlayStation 4 event, Google announces the Chromebook Pixel and Google also shows off more of Glass.

73: Avenging the Death of xBox

elon-musk-tony-stark

When a meteor strikes earth, the only thought in your mind should be one question: When will the Avengers assemble? That’s what we asked ourselves while talking about tech this week. Perhaps the other 2 questions you’re asking are 1) When is Elon Musk going to reveal his personal arc reactor? and 2) Will Microsoft ever figure out how to innovate again with their xBox?

Then there might be other news: Sony might stream games to their next gen PlayStation, HP might make an Android tablet, Google might open retail stores, Samsung might start selling Tizen smartphones soon, and Nest might make another smart home-based product.

72: The Slight Edge of Tech

the-slight-edge

Sudden breakthroughs are the results on small regular actions over time which slowly compound into something amazing. Save $10 per day and you’ll be able to retire a millionaire 40 years later. Start with a phone, improve upon it slowly every day and you’ll have breakthrough smart phones. That’s what we talk about today – the result of those simple actions compounded over time.

Today’s focus is on Google glass and bone vibration, Zillow’s home improvement app, Dell going private, Mailbox for iPhone, iWatch for Apple, Vine for adults, House of Cards on Netflix, EA’s Origin coming to Mac, and Apple’s iPhone India sales.

71: You Can’t Win ’em All, Though I Don’t See Why Not

Super Bowl Blackout

Episode 71 comes after a rough loss for the 49ers. Of all the horrible things to happen in the week, this was the worst. But we pull ourselves together to talk about technology. Here’s what happened.

Elon Musk offers to help Boeing with their battery problem, Microsoft reveals that you’ll only get to use 23gb of the 64gb Surface Pro, Apple introduces a 128gb iPad, RIM changes to Blackberry along with a new mobile OS, researchers figure out how to print 3D moon bases, Newegg defeats Soverain to saves the Internet, driverless cars are closer than you think, and Nintendo announces they’re going to lose money this year.

This year… Sigh… We’ll get them next year… Go 49ers!

70: A Very Controversial Episode

tech-oops

We attempt to create some controversy in episode 70 because clearly it’s working for Kim Dotcom’s new Mega site. Microsoft also creates some controversy over their poor Windows 8 sales, Twitter creates controversy with Facebook over finding friends in their new Vine app, and Apple’s stock goes down it has too much cash.

On the positive side, Simplenote got bought by Automattic, H.265 got approved, we’re experimenting with storing data with DNA, and the new Moves iPhone app can help track your steps.

#67: Times, They Are a-Changin’

html5

It is a new year and HTML 5 is live! Leap Motion raised some cash, Netbooks are dead, Windows 8 is not selling well because of the iPad, Chromebooks are selling well on Amazon, Samsung might move away from Android, and Silicon Valley innovation exists… kinda.

Also, Amazon is crushing B&N, Cue reviews our email, Square card reads are now sold at Starbucks, Avis buys Zipcar, and Google does not favor their own services, except Maps on Windows Phone.
