Water And Tech Do Not Mix

Episode 49 finds us poolside at a near-by Disneyland hotel. Things get crazy pretty quick as kids start showing up and splashing in the pool. Still we manage to talk about a couple tech stories: Space elevators are a ways off, Flipboard turns 2, Simple and Mint.com start treading on each other’s territory, Wolfram Alpha analyzes your Facebook activity, there’s a new Foursquare checkin game called Landlord, CA approves self-driving cars, Facebook admits that some likes are fake, and Microsoft updates their TOS to be more of a QA.

We then dive into specific aspects about Disneyland: the technology involved in running a half-marathon, the future of Tomorrow Land, and fireworks.

The Yahoo Knight Rises

Episode 43! We start off talking about the NFL getting iPads & cloud data transfers and HP offering “The Cloud Thing”. Then we chat about Yahoo’s new CEO: Marrisa Mayer, how Microsoft squandered their $6.3 billion purchase of aQuantive, a chart that further points to an impending Mini-iPad, the formula for start-up messages after being bought by Facebook/Google, and the iOS/OSX in-app purchase hack (hint: don’t do it).

We round out, admittedly, another weird show by talking about Prezi’s new 3D presentations, laser powered bionic eyes from Second Sight, Matthew’s field trip to the set of Star Trek II: The National Ignition Facility, the state of the Apple vs. Android/Samsung lawsuits, and finally James reveals what space smells like.

An Exercise In Freedom

For this July 4th weekend we opened up the 41st podcast to let anyone join who wanted to, and then proceeded to experience massive technical difficulties. We had Yancy Eaton (@yancyeaton) join, and David Villani attempt multiple times.

It was a fun discussion which hit on the Nexus 7 killing all other Androids, the Weather Channel consuming Weather Underground, 7″ iPad rumors, the Higgs Boson “God Particle” discovery, Bizodo’s stupid/brilliant business, the size of Reddit, and finally a rousing discussion about Sony and their purchase of Gaikai.
