Creating compelling products requires a visionary leader. Someone who can put the product line in context and provide a rationale for what was, or was not, created. Tesla and Microsoft both have visionary leaders. Apple appears to be struggling in this area.

Everybody’s talking about Pokemon Go, so we decided to add to the conversation this week as well. Matthew got a 3D printer (temporarily) and James didn’t get any new smart home accouterment (bummer). James and Matthew developed an app idea to get on Apple’s Planet of the Apps (it’s amazing). Tesla tried to keep their company on the road this week. Hyperloop had a dramatic week. We also talked about Tech Evangelists, Apple’s music royalty gambit and we even quickly covered a weekly VR update.

We started things out mourning the loss of a great piece of Facebook tech. We then looked toward the future, and how to educate it. Things nearly careened out of control for a little while, but we avoided an accident. We wrapped it all up with a nutritious machined made burger. We also mentioned HTC spinning off their VR department, Spotify getting testy with Apple and Google increasing the bandwidth to Japan.
Dare to dream! Laptops are getting so thin that they can double as cheese cutters. But are they getting too thin? Maybe the “cheese cutters test” isn’t the right area laptop makers should be competing. Maybe it should be about battery life and speed.
So far podcasting has been free and open. However, some would like to see Apple play more central role to allow things like better analytics and in-show purchases.
